KRAGUJEVAC, Mideast Serbia Kragujevac is one of the larger cities in Yugoslavia. It is placed in the central Serbia on the right bank of the river Lepenica. Largest part of the population of this city is working in  "Zastava" factory, Yugoslavia's only car industry. This factory has been targeted by NATO as a
military target. Becouse the destruction of this factory would be a loos of a job for most of the
city population, the workers of "Zastava" have agreed to make a live human shield inside the
factory thinking that hey will stop NATO attacks that way. They thought wrong. Factory was bombed
during two nights. Most of it is destroyed including the energy plant that is used for heating of
civilian homes in Kragujevac. 160 workers of "Zastava" that were in human shield inside the
factory are wounded from the attack, lot of them seriously. 36.000 people are left without their
jobs. They don't know how will they feed their family. The end of this bombing will bring them
only poverty and hunger, for them and their families. As they said in their proclamation: "We,
the ZASTAVA workers and citizens of Kragujevac, are afraid of the future standing in front of
us. Now we wonder whether we have any future at all. Our children are hungry, and their eyes
filled with horror. We have no more answers to their questions."
